To Whom It May Concern.
I have been involved in the organization and support of chess events in Florida for many years, both as the Coordinator of the Title I Administration Chess Program, Miami-Dade County Public Schools, the largest school district in Florida and the Southeastern United States, and as Commissioner of the Florida Scholastic Chess League (FSCL). In those capacities is where I met Franc Guadalupe almost 20 years ago. As an organizer and director of chess events, and later as the US Chess Director of Events and Executive Director, he has always been incredibly supportive of our chess organizers, directors, and players.
Here in Florida, we have two statewide chess organizations: the Florida Chess Association (FCA), of which Franc was the President before his relocation to Texas in 2005, and the Florida Scholastic Chess League (FSCL). These two organizations have not always worked well together, but they certainly did while Franc lived here. There were many reasons why both organizations worked well while Franc resided in the Sunshine State: his tact, ability to work well with different groups of individuals of both organizations, his understanding of chess issues at all levels, his treatment of players regardless of age, experience, or rating, and his ability to listen and take the appropriate action, just to name a few. We think so highly of Franc that even after his move to Texas in 2005, we invited him to be the Chief TD at our FCA/FSCL State Scholastic Chess Championships in 2006, 2010, 2011, and 2012. We could not think of a more suitable and qualified person to be the Chief TD of our main Scholastic events! After that, he was selected to work at the US Chess National Office and, as always, he remained supportive and extremely helpful. Even now, in times of difficult chess situations, we still call on Franc for his expert advice.
What pride I felt when I learned that Franc is running for President of the Texas Chess Association. What I can tell you from experience is that Texas players, directors and organizers would be truly fortunate to elect him as TCA President. Franc is a great asset to any organization and I highly recommend him for the position he seeks. Should you require any further information please do not hesitate to contact me.
